The NextEnergy Foundation is pleased to announce that in January 2019, we teamed up with One Tree Planted, a non-profit organization on a mission to reforest our planet and provide education, awareness and engagement on the importance of trees and our ecosystem.
One Tree Planted has planted 65,000 trees to date and their aim over the next 3 years will be to plant more than 400,000 native trees. There have been major social benefits since the charity established such as an increase in education for the local, 342 farming families have participated and 26% of the farmers are women. Reforestation only occurs in the
areas that have been degraded due to extensive farming, which will enrich the soil again depleted of nutrients.
We donated 10,000 trees in a reforestation project in Peru, located in the Madre de Dios region, which is home to over 10% of the world’s bird species. The Peru Project will also conserve the habitat of the jaguar and hundreds of other species that have been affected by deforestation. The project will work with local farmers and will have additional benefits such as establishing a sustainable agroforestry and enhancing the biodiversity in the local area.
With our support to reforestation projects we aim to offset NextEnergy Group foot print in carbon generation.
