Albero della Vita: India Project Completion

In July 2021, NextEnergy Foundation (“NEF”) embarked on a new partnership with Fondazione Albero della Vita (“FADV”) and fully funded the installation of eight solar systems (each 12.5kWp) on seven of FADV’s Learning Centres and their Farmer’s Resource Centre in the Sundarbans, India. Following the success of this work, NEF funded the installation of solar systems on the remainder of FADV’s Learning Centres, 40 in total. Key impacts are below:
- Direct beneficiaries: 6,600
- Indirect beneficiaries: 24,300 people, including the students’ families; members of the Centre Management Committees; teachers and school staff; local authorities; and, wider community members, all with access to services run by the Centres
- Female students: 51%
- School attendance: Raised from 50% to 90%
- Installations: 198 people involved
- Operation and Management: 80 people trained
- Energy savings:35% energy expenses
- CO2 displaced: 33 tonnes CO2e displaced to date
Transforming FADV’s Centres has not only involved the physical installation of the solar systems, but also the alteration of the Centres’ ethos and governance structures towards the promotion of sustainable development. As part of the project, FADV has organised ‘education for sustainable development’ days in accordance with the Targets for UN SDG 13 (Climate Action).
