Renewable World: mid-project update

Date: 04/11/2020

In April 2020, NextEnergy Foundation forged a new partnership with Renewable World to undertake a 12-month project in Nepal which will improve the health of two off-grid communities in the Surkhet District using clean energy solutions.

As per the Teams post made in August, the Baispani Community Health Unit and Khanikhola Community Health Unit were identified as the two posts to be equipped utilising NEF’s donation. Three key outcomes are expected:

  1. The health posts will be equipped with solar power and electrical equipment to offer new energy-enabled health services, including refrigerated medicines, vaccinations, and apparatus to treat indoor pollution related illnesses. Training will be provided to local health post staff on the basic operation and maintenance of the solar powered systems;
  2. Households across the two communities will receive improved cookstoves which have been developed in conjunction with the Centre for Rural Technology Nepal; and,
  3. All households will experience health benefits and have access to improved health services.

There have been some delays in the project delivery due to Covid-19. The next update on the project’s progress will be provided early in 2021.
