Celebrating 10 Years of Empowering Communities Through Sustainable Impact
This year, NextEnergy Foundation proudly marks its tenth anniversary.
Over the past decade, the Foundation has worked alongside charitable partners around the world to improve lives through access to clean energy, supporting education, health, livelihoods and environmental sustainability in underserved communities.
From a single intervention in 2016 to a global portfolio spanning 32 countries, the Foundation’s journey has been guided by a simple but powerful belief: that renewable energy can be a catalyst for positive social and environmental change.
From Two Students to Supporting Communities Worldwide
The Foundation’s story began with a single intervention: sponsoring the A-Level education of two promising students in Zimbabwe.
Both students went on to pursue higher education internationally, demonstrating how access to opportunity can help unlock individual potential and create lasting change. While modest in scale, this first initiative embodied the values that continue to guide the Foundation today: partnership, opportunity and long-term impact.
What started with two students has since grown into a portfolio of renewable energy-based projects designed to address some of the most pressing challenges facing communities worldwide.
Growing Impact Through Strong Partnerships
The Foundation’s achievements are made possible through close collaboration with trusted charitable partners who combine deep local knowledge with a shared commitment to sustainable development.
The scale of that impact continues to grow. In 2025 alone, projects supported by the Foundation reached more than 300,800 community members through education, health, water and livelihood initiatives.
Over the past decade, the Foundation has supported 144 interventions across 32 countries, including 127 development projects and 17 emergency interventions.
These initiatives have delivered impact across three interconnected thematic areas:
- Education
- Health & Water
- Improved Livelihoods
Alongside these core programmes, the Foundation has also expanded its support for Nature-focused initiatives, further strengthening its commitment to environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
A Decade of Tangible Results
Working together with its partners, the Foundation has contributed to a wide range of measurable outcomes across the world.
Over the past ten years, supported projects have delivered:
☀️ More than 1.5 MWp of solar capacity installed
🔦 Approximately 11,290 portable solar lights distributed or repaired
🔥 Approximately 3,290 clean cookstoves distributed
⛽ Approximately 2,590 fuel vouchers provided to vulnerable households
💧 962 portable solar water purification systems distributed
🚦 670 solar streetlights installed
🚰 38 solar-powered water pumping systems installed
🌳 274 hectares of forest protected or restored
While these figures help illustrate the scale of the Foundation’s work, they represent something even more meaningful: hundreds of thousands of people whose lives have been positively impacted through the dedication, expertise and commitment of our partners.
