NextEnergy Foundation (“NEF”) partnered with Open Kitchens in August 2020 to support their Holiday Hunger Programme in Nottingham.
50% of the budget which had originally been set aside for the NextEnergy Capital (“NEC”) London office Christmas 2020 festivities was utilised to prepare and distribute food parcels to marginalised elderly and vulernable students across Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire. The parcels contained brand cooking sauces, vegetables, fruit, ambient products and a few festive treats.
March 2021 Project Update: Open Kitchens has now finished delivering food parcels with NEC’s and NEF’s support. In total, 1,780 food parcels were delivered to 740 children and 50 elderly individuals across 4 regions of the UK. This equates to 52,500 meals and 52 tonnes CO2 emissions avoided by distributing surplus food which would have otherwise gone to a landfill. This is a tremendous achievement!
